KICK-OFF

RAITH
ROVERS ....4 AIRDRIE UNITED.... 4
With four goals in the first half Airdrie United under 17s looked
to be heading for a comfortable win when they played Raith Rovers
at Dalgety bay. Mark Miller was the first to get on the score
sheet when he fired home a shot after only ten minutes of play,
giving Airdrie the early lead. However Raith Rovers levelled the
score only nine minutes later, after an incident in the Airdrie
goal-mouth led to a penalty being awarded to Raith Rovers which
beat goalkeeper William Morrison. On the half hour mark a corner
kick by Chris McKee resulted in a goal for Mark Fitzpatrick and
put Airdrie back in front.
For
the remainder of the half Airdrie took control of the game and
scored another two goals.
The
first came when a free kick taken by David Taylor sailed over
the Raith defence and into the net. Minutes later, shortly before
half time, a corner kick by Mark Miller was headed home by Colin
Burns, making it 4-1 to Airdrie at the interval. The second half
started well for Airdrie, with an early shot by Mark Fitzpatrick
going just wide of the target, and substitute Sean Clark's shot
held by the Raith Rovers goalkeeper. Steven McMillan, playing
in defence, had to leave the pitch after a leg injury and was
replaced by David Downs. Raith Rovers continued to push forward
and were rewarded with three goals in the final twenty minutes,
the game finishing 4-4. With two more games to play Airdrie remain
top of the under 17 league.
