Joins the Diamonds (4/8/06)
The
Club can confirm that Graeme Watson put pen to paper and signed
for the Club this afternoon.
Graeme,
20, was previously with Rangers and he has featured as a trialist
for the Club against Ballymena and also Glentoran.
Sandy
was impressed with what he saw on tour and concluded the deal
prior to the commencement of the new season. He said, “Graeme
was recommended to us through Jimmy Boyle and we heard enough
about him to include him in the squad for Belfast. He played a
part in both games and looked very composed for a player of his
age. He is a welcome addition to the squad.” |

Ballymena
United 2 Vs 1 Airdrie United
Airdrie
United cotinued our pre-season campaign with our first friendly
match in Northern Ireland.
Unfortunately
the match ending in a loss for Airdrie and only a goal from Stephen
McDougall made the result look respectable. |
Christie
Returns (27/7/06)
After
what can only be described as a 'busy' day at the office we are
happy to announce that Kevin Christie has signed for the Club.
Kevin
has been outstanding preseason and has been a stand out player
in almost every game. As a result of his performances a number
of other Clubs were beginning to look in his direction and therefore
we finalised everything today so as to secure his services.
The
squad is now really beginning to take shape but there is still
further work to do.

MARC
SMYTH JOINS AIRDRIE (27/7/06)
We
are delighted to confirm that, following negotiations with Partick
Thistle, Marc has signed for the Club on a 2 year deal for an
undisclosed fee.
Marc
(23) was Captain of Partick Thistle last year but was a player
that we have been after for some time. We originally tried to
sign him when he was with Ayr back in 2005 only for the deal to
fall through on the last day of the Transfer Window.
Sandy
Stewart said “I have been a long time admirer of Marc Smyth
and I was disappointed when the previous attempt fell through.
He is the type of player (6 ft) that we have currently been looking
for and can play in a variety of positions across the back four.
He can also play in midfield.”
Marc
joins up with the squad with immediate effect and his papers are
with the League to clear him to play at the weekend in Belfast. |
Paul
Lovering accepts contract (26/07/06)
The
Club can confirm that Paul Lovering has returned to the Club and
has signed a contract this morning.
Paul's
was carrying an injury at the latter part of last season and this
was causing him some concern.
However,
after undergoing a small op over the summer and now returning
to full fitness, both ourselves and Paul are delighted to hook
up again. Paul played last night against Falkirk and he is looking
forward to the trip to Belfast.
Welcome
back Paul. |
Falkirk
2 vs 1 Airdrie United. (25/7/06)
Airdrie
United travelled to Grangemouth to take on SPL side Falkirk and
although we were beaten in the end, the Diamonds put on an excellent
show.
This
was a game of missed opportunities for the Airdrie side, with
Brian Prunty, Garry Twigg, Stephen McDougall, Graeme Holmes and
Willie McLaren all coming close to opening the scoring in the
first half.
With
the game standing at nil - nil, it was Willie McLaren who opened
the scoring, Brian Prunty put a ball through the Falkirk defence
and McLaren hammered home. Eleven minutes in to the second half
and Airdrie had finally opened the scoring.
With
substitutions now being made, Falkirk began to push and it was
long before A Trialist scored the equaliser, the winner came late
in the game another goal for A Trialist and a final score of two
- one to the home team. |
AIRDRIE
AGREE TO HELP GRETNA
As
you will be aware, we were drawn at home against Gretna in The
Challenge Cup. We normally play our midweek games on a Tuesday
but we were approached by Gretna to see if we could change to
the Wednesday.
They
are playing in Europe on the previous Thursday and their League
game has been moved to the Sunday, giving them, potentially, 3
important games in 6 days.
In
the circumstances we were happy to move the game to the Wednesday.
In
other news the CIS Cup match is now confirmed as Tuesday 7:45pm
August 8th. |

Airdrie
United Sign Garry Tierney (24/7/06)
The
Club is happy to confirm that agreement was reached with Garry
Tierney on Friday and he signed for the Club.
Gary
was previously with Hearts however his development was restricted
bythe lack of first team experience and the amount of players
at the Club.
Garry
(20) is desperate to play first team football and is looking forward
to the challenge of the First Division in the forthcoming season. |

Stenhousemuir
1 Vs. 5 Airdrie United (15/7/06)
Airdrie
United began their pre-season warm up with an away trip to Stenhousemuir
and won the match convincingly. Goals from Holmes (2), MacDougall,
Prunty and McPhee gave us the win.
Stenhousemuir had a few good chances in the closing minutes to
get something from the game as Airdrie United found it difficult
to deal with corners, finally a penalty gave Stenhousemuir a goal.
This was a good work out for the team. |

Stans
a Diamond once again (5/7/06)
The
Club is delighted to confirm that Stuart Taylor completed the
paperwork and signed for the Club yesterday.
Stuart
joined us late last season after a long spell out through injury.
We began to see flashes of the Stuart Taylor everybody knew from
before, as the season drew to a close and from Stuart’s
point of view, the season finished at just the wrong time.
However,
after a lot of hard work, he is fit and raring to go and is a
valuable addition to our squad. He has a great physical presence,
a wealth of experience and a true goal threat and we are extremely
pleased to have concluded the deal.
Welcome
home Stan. |

(13/6/06)
The
Club are delighted to announce that we will be playing two games
over in Northern Ireland as part of our preparations for the forthcoming
season.
On
Saturday 29 July, we play Ballymena United FC as part of their
opening season Gala Day and full details of the events on the
day will be issued shortly. Airdrie played Ballymena back in the
70s as part of the old Texaco Cup set up and they had a good season
last year finishing 7th in the Premier Division.
On
Monday night we return to Belfast to play Glentoran who also had
a great season finishing runners up to Linfield in the Premier
Division. They were also unlucky in the Cup as they were beaten
in the final last season. This should be an excellent test in
the run up to the start of our own domestic season and we are
all looking forward to the trip.
Due
to the opportunities for low cost travel, there are flights available
for the weekend with a variety of carriers from as little as £42
return so get booking early as the prices increase the busier
the planes get
