It's difficult to know where to start when discussing a match that has nothing going for it. Once again at Palmerston and against Queen of the South their has been a distinct lack of entertainment.
Queen of the South defended deep and Airdrie United struggled to break them down and the chances for both teams were few and far between.
Airdrie United came close when Kevin Barkey led the attack down the right hand side, his cross from a tight angle found Twigg who could only strike the ball on to the post.
As we once again eliminated our mid-field from the game passing them by at every opportunity we struggled to have any further attacking chances in the first half.

Picture to follow if available.

Our formation changed in the second half to look more like a 4-3-3 McLaren moving along both wings and in the centre of the attack forcing the Queen of the South defence to chase him, unfortunately the supply that to make this move effective was missing from our play.

The second half we tried harder but it was just not going to be our day, not due to bad luck or missed chances but for lack of heart and fight. Eventually referee Brines was to a take a hand in the developing game. Brian McLaughlin managed to split the Airdrie United defence as Alan McManus was caught wrong footed, 40 yards from goal Alan hauled him down by the shoulder and the referee blew for a foul. So far from goal most fans expected to see a yellow card. Brines had other ideas, pulling the red from his pocket, he sent McManus for an early bath.
Frustrating does not cover the rest of the half the closest we came to scoring was when Brian McPhee had a good chance in the Queen of the South penalty area. He sent it towards goal as though he was shooting for the uprights in a rugby match.
After playing three or four minutes of extra time Queen of the South finally broke the dead lock and stole all three points. Paul Burns took his shot well and keeper Robertson could do nothing to keep it out.
