This was to become a match between two young keepers, our own Lee Hollis and for Dundee Scott Murray as the inevitable penalty shoot out would loom over the heads of both sets of fans.
The match started at a blistering pace and as is the norm Airdrie United were soon huffing and puffing up and down the park but the Dundee defence stood strong and gave Scott Murray the protection he needed, which in turn allowed him to settle in to the game.

Match Pictures to follow

Both teams had half chances in the opening twenty minutes but neither were able to capitalise.
A corner to Dundee gave them the opening everyone was dreading. Paul Dixon's cross from the left was headed back by Bobby Mann to Scott Robertson, 15 yards out. The midfielder's shot took a wicked deflection en route to the back of the net. 36 minutes gone and Dundee were one nil up and looked like they would be able to hold the lead comfortably.

The game was to give us another first, Brian McPhee's first goal in a competitive match since his return to us. It took until the 52nd minute for us to find an opening. David Dunn crossed in from the left hand side and Brian headed home, he looked unaware for a few seconds that the ball had actually went in but still it did and we had found the equalising goal.
Was the game heading to extra time?
At one point close to the end of the half, Dundee yet again found the back of the net but thankfully it was ruled off side. The ball had bounced about our six yard line until Dundee's Anderson tried a dramatic over head kick that was well saved by Hollis; the rebound fell to the head of McManus who puts the ball in the net. The near side lines man had already flagged and the Dundee players and fans were left as angry as we had been in the first half.
Both teams kept trying to win the game but it was Airdrie who had the most pressure towards the end of regulation time. Unfortunately not enough pressure to win the game.
Both teams looked tired as we went in to extra time and by now it looked as though penalties were a certainty.
