Airdrie
United displayed our new away top for the first time this season
during our visit to Dundee.
Stephen Docherty was missing from the line up that faced Dundee
in our Challenge cup penalty defeat and Kevin Barkey took his
place in mid-field. Paul Lovering was still ruled out with a broken
toe and David Dunn continued to fill the gap at the left back
position.
The game started with a bang, a corner taken by Willie McLaren
was deflected by Brian McPhee and Steven McDougall was in position
to put Airdrie United one up. Five minutes on the clock and once
again we had taken the lead against the team the bookies have
as favourites for promotion.
So where do you go from here? Airdrie United in the opening weeks
of this season would have sat back and defended the lead, inviting
opponents to attack us, Since the St Johnstone win we have changed
our attitude and have once again begun to pressurise other teams
taking control of matches instead of sitting and soaking up pressure.

Dundee
however are a strong team especially in defence and mid-field,
we seemed to be getting shoved off the ball far too easily while
in attack and our mid-field were systematically taken out of
the game for large periods of play. Towards the end of the first
half we were lucky to survive with our lead in tacked. Lack
of communication left our defence, who had been solid up until
now, and goal keeper floundering but a great recovery by Neil
McGowan saw the ball fired out of play for a corner.
We were well and truly under the cosh and great full for the
half time whistle.
The second half continued along the same lines, pressure from
Airdrie United down the wings broke down before any damage could
be done and we allowed Dundee to gain the upper hand. Dundee
were forcing their way through our mid-field and only slack
play from the Dundee attack and a fantastic defensive display
kept us in the game for long periods of the game.

The
Airdrie United defence were being put under so much pressure that
eventually it began to take its toll, Neil McGowan twenty minutes
in to the half had to be substituted and Trialist Stuart McCluskey
came on for his first game in an Airdrie United shirt. Then, five
minutes later Sandy Stewart shocked most of the fans and replaced
Stephen McKeown with Martin Hardie. It was a surprise that would
soon bear fruit. Martin received a return pass from Kevin Barkey
in the mid-field and lobbing the ball in to the path of Brian
Prunty who had made a fantastic run across the Dundee defence
he deftly curled the ball past Kelvin Jack and gave Airdrie United
a 2-0 lead.
In the closing twenty minutes of the second half Dundee maintained
their earlier pressure and Lee Hollis was forced to pull of some
great saves to keep the score a 2-0. We almost made the score
line even bigger when a cross from Kevin Barkey found Brian McPhee
poorly defended on the back post, unfortunately his header came
of the upright and we were left having to accept a 2-0 win.
