Airdrie United went out of the CIS Insurance Cup at the first time of asking, two goals separated the teams but there seemed to be a huge gulf between the two teams. Raith Rovers dominated the game from the start and on Six minutes Eddie Annand turned Neil McGowan and left him floundering, his shot flew in to the back of the net giving Lee Hollis no chance.
We held on to the ball well for the biggest part of the first half but with no bite, we were soon under pressure.
The closest we came to scoring came from a Paul Lovering free kick that hit the post Willie McLaren blazed the ball over from the rebound.

There were no changes made in at the start of the second half and the match continued in the same way as the first, Airdrie played some nice passing football but it was getting us no where, time and time again the defence played the ball forward only to receive it back a few minutes later from the midfield or attack.
It took 12 minutes for Raith to score their 2nd goal and end the match as a competition.
A long cross field ball from Mark Crilly, found Neil Jablonski in space once again down the left side of our defence.

I would love to say we battled to get back in the game, but in reality all I can say is we tried. With the arrival of Stephen McDougall on the park, we had some extra attacking option. But like Willie McLaren every time he was on the ball he was picked up by two men. After 25 minutes as the ball bounced around the Raith penalty area McDougall chested down a cross ball from Willie McLaren, when it looked a certainty to go in the back of the net, the ball took a bad bounce and he hit it over the bar.
From here Raith went up the park and had three or four scoring chances that looked like turning this match in to a real embarrassment.
