It's very difficult as a Fan of Airdrie United to write this report with out being totally biased, so to begin with I am going to say that today's performance was fantastic and we earned the result through playing ninety plus minutes of football determination and great play.
Dunfermline kicked off attacking towards the travelling support in the East Stand, who is already making plenty on noise.
Straight from the kick off Dunfermline tried to dominate the Airdrie United defence and within three minutes had the first corner of the match; the ball is cleared for a throw.
However, Airdrie United were not going to make this easy on our SPL opponents and Brian McPhee was going to lead the charge, after strolling through the Dunfermline defence he sent the first Airdrie United shot slightly wide.
Brian Prunty drops back from his attacking roll to pick up the ball and carry if forward, he sees Willie McLaren in space on the left hand side and fires a pinpoint cross-straight to him. Willie Carries the ball forward and shoots but the ball goes wide.
On seventeen minutes disaster strikes and the worst possible thing happens, Noel Hunt beats McGowan and Lovering and shoots towards goal, Robertson gets to but the ball falls from his grip and Mason slots the ball home.
Not the start Airdrie United needed.
Airdrie United continue to fight and Martin Hardie with a long shot watches float very wide.
On twenty-three minutes, things get worse for the Airdrie United defence a ball in to the Airdrie box is cleared by Neil McGowan his header however bounces off the legs of Stephen Docherty and lands behind the defence at the feet of Hunt a simple tap in and it's two-nil Dunfermline.
Unfortunately, it looks like game over!
Airdrie United have to push forward now and fight for everything or we are seriously out of the match the fans in the East stand felt this as well and the singing is becoming more subdued.
But the never say die attitude that seems part of our game this season rears it's head once again, Stephen McKeown tries to run through the Dunfermline defence but is brought up short. Martin Hardie with another long shot sees this one saved comfortably by McGregor.
On thirty minutes, Brian Prunty is chopped down on the right wing and it looks like he is in real trouble. While Prunty is still off the park, receiving treatment, Stephen McKoewn takes the free kick. His in swinging cross finds Stephen Docherty rising above the Dunfermline defence and it is two - one. The away support is now going mad.
Three minutes later Dunfermline's Makel is booked for another poor tackle on Prunty.
Airdrie United are back in the game and we receive another corner, Dunfermline are struggling to manage our attack and another header goes by the post.
As the first half comes to a close Airdrie United have got themselves back in it and are slightly on top, Dunfermline will be happy they had the two goal lead.

Doc with goal number one

Hardie with number two

The celebrations

McKeown celebrates his seventh penalty goal

Docherty with his second and the winner

Neither team makes any changes for the second half, can Airdrie United come out as strong as they finished the first half as we go back to what has been an exciting match.
Airdrie United attacking now towards the away fans came out of the blocks quickest, our passing game coming in to great effect as we held on to the ball and attacked.

It took six minutes for Airdrie United to level the score, Stephen Docherty made a run across the face of the Dunfermline penalty box an as Martin Hardie cut through Docherty's run he claimed the ball and drove deep in to the Dunfermline box, he placed the ball under McGregor and brought the game level.
Airdrie United received our first booking when Paul Lovering brought down Hunt.
The first seriously controversial match of the game gives Dunfermline a three - two lead. Dunfermline's Makel sends in a free kick that Stephen Robertson has covered, but while Robertson has both hands on the ball and is in the air Derek Young barges in to him and brings him down, referee Fyfe sees nothing wrong as Young slots the ball in to the net.
Three - two after fifty-six minutes and once again Airdrie United have a fight on our hands.
With Dunfermline on top, a moment of madness places the game back in Airdrie United's hands, Once again Makel of Dunfermline commits a foul in a dangerous area and is shown his second yellow card. It takes Fyfe a few seconds to realise he has already booked Makel and is forced to send him off. McKeown hits the free kick and it dips late and lands on the top of the net.
When you are against ten men all good managers have trained their players to keep the ball on the wings and force your opposition to chase the game, Airdrie United did this automatically and between Paul Lovering and Stephen McKenna to either side kept the ball going from wing to wing and pressuring the Dunfermline defence.
McGregor in the Dunfermline goal decides that it is time to waste time; with the ball at his feet, he kicks it along the inside of his own penalty box back and forth he goes until Brian Prunty forces him to lift it and play some football.
Sandy Stewart who has led the Diamonds valiantly today decides it is time for a substitution; Steven McDougall replaces Neil McGowan. Paul Lovering drops back to fill in for McGowan and McDougall moves in to the attacking wing back position.
The game is all Airdrie United now as we force Dunfermline back time after.
Controversial moment number two: - Brian McPhee scores from a Willie McLaren corner and Airdrie United are back in the game, but referee Fyfe had spotted a foul and has disallowed the goal. It looked like he thought Lovering impeded McGregor in the Dunfermline goal, rough justice.
Controversial moment number three: - Airdrie United awarded a penalty, a handball on the Dunfermline goalmouth. As Stephen McKeown steps up to take the penalty, the fans debate whose hand the ball hit. Some said it was Hardie some Willie McLaren and others that it came of Dunfermline player Jamie McCunnie. Either way if it was a penalty some one should have been sent off!
Stephen McKeown the fully recognised penalty king of Airdrie United steps us, a Dunfermline player makes a show of noising him up and McKeown just laughs it off. Low and to the left he shoots and Airdrie United are now level. Three all and much much more than the Airdrie fans ever expected.
Many have already started to discuss the replay and how we will take Dunfermline at home but it was not meant to be.
The Airdrie United players had the bit between their teeth now and the game was not over, as Airdrie United attacked, we earned our selves another corner, then a second then a third and then finally on the fourth penalty Stephen Docherty snuck in the header that put Airdrie United in to the fourth round draw of the Scottish Cup.
What a game and what a result, Fantastic.
