Airdrie
United continue our fine form and take all three points, but not
before, we once again went behind.
St Johnstone started the stronger of the two teams forcing Stephen
Robertson to pull of a great save. For twenty minutes, St Johnstone
continued to pressure but the mid-field and defence were up to
the task. Jason Scotland was once again St Johnstone's main threat
but Alan McManus and Neil McGowan were marshalling him and they
managed to keep his threat to a minimum.
Two penalties in three minutes were to throw this game on his
head.
St Johnstone were given a corner that was cleared to the edge
of the box by a Paul Lovering header as the ball was fired back
towards goal Stephen McKeown was judged, by referee McDonald,
to have handled the ball inside the box ans awarded St Johnstone
with a penalty. Paul Sheerin stepped up and scored the first goal
of the match.
Airdrie United had to once again come from behind; It did not
take us long. Brian Prunty just inside the St Johnstone box cut
inside the defence to receive a crossed ball. He quite simply
was knocked to his backside. Another penalty and another chance
for Stephen McKeown to step up and as the undisputed Airdrie United
penalty king get us back in the game. |

Was
it to be a case of villain turned hero for Stephen?
Of course, it was, and Stephen finds the net for his seventh
goal of the season and his sixth penalty goal.
So stalemate once again and the battle continued in the midfield.
Airdrie United began to turn up the pressure as McLaren, McDougal,
Prunty and McPhee led the charge.
Goal number two for Airdrie United came from a McDougal and
Prunty combination, a defence splitting pass from McDougal left
Prunty to go around Kevin James, unselfishly he sent the ball
across the goal mouth in to the path of the on rushing Willie
McLaren who with plenty of time and an open goal mouth gave
us goal number two.

Goal
number three looked to be on the cards shortly before half time.
Stephen McDougal received the ball in mid-field and made a charge
towards the St Johnstone defence. He went by one then two players
before Simon Mensing brought him down with a tackle from behind.
A yellow card was awarded, for a similar tackle that saw an Airdrie
United player sent off earlier in the season.
When Jason Scotland was substitued at half time due to an ankle
injury St Johnstone seemed to lose a lot of their forward motion.
The second half was to become all Airdrie but without a further
goal our play deserved. Airdrie United controlled the half and
Brian Prunty was very unlucky not to give us our third goal half
way through the half.
Late on St Johnstone could have had a very late equaliser by Paul
Lovering held his position on the goal line and the ball was cleared.
Stevenson was unlucky but it was a well deserved win for Airdrie
United.
Simon Mensing was deservedly sent off very late in the half for
a late tackle on Stephen Docherty.
