Airdrie
United Football Club
St Mirren (1) Vs. (0) Airdrie United In front of the largest attendance in the Bells First Division only one goal was to separate the two teams. Airdrie United went down to our third defeat on the road in as many games, all three results have been one nil defeats and they have been to the top three teams in the division. Airdrie United started the game slowly and for the full of the first half it felt like we were holding back the tide of the St Mirren attack. Our defence held as Mark McGeown was forced to pull off a finger tip save to keep Airdrie United in the game. Most of the battle between the two teams took part in the mid-field with very little goal mouth action to speak off. Airdrie United started the brighter after the break and Alan Gow had a golden opportunity to open the goal scoring, it looked simpler to hit a shot but he dithered on the ball and Craig Hinchcliffe found the time to recover and the chance was missed. Our first shot on goal didn't come until fifteen minutes before the end of the game. Owen Coyle hit a spinning volley just wide and our last and only chance of a goal went begging. Airdrie United were then caught open down the right hand side, a teasing ball from Ryan McCay found substitute Brain McGinty free. Alan McManus who had been solid for the game was left stranded. The cross from Brian McGinty was knocked easily in to the net by Stewart Kean. The game trundled to an end with St Mirren (1) Vs.
