Airdrie United (2) Vs. Ross County (1)
Bells Scottish 1st Division
15th January 2005
New Broomfield

Airdrie United took the three points from a very even match against Ross County.

Both teams set out their game plan with Tuesday night's Tennent's Scottish cup match in mind, neither team wanted to make a mistake. It took until the 12th minute for either team to get a decent sight of goal.

Mark Roberts swung a pass across goal and Alan Gow had the perfect opportunity to open the scoring. Unfortunately the shot carried on past the far post and the on rushing Willie McLaren was too short of pace to catch up to it. Airdrie United remained on top for most of the first half and it was after a tactical change that saw Mark Roberts and Willie McLaren change sides that the break through came.

Owen Coyle on the far side of the park sent in an in swinging cross that was headed on by Alan Gow. Willie, coming in on the near side slotted the ball home underneath the keeper for his second goal of the season. The half time whistle came shortly after.

The second half saw a better display from Ross County and they had two or three chances to score the equalising goal. David Winters hit a fantastic shot that had Mark McGeown pulling of a fantastic save. Airdrie United rode their luck when a shot from Don Cowie bounced of the far post and rolled across the face of the goal. No one followed it up and Airdrie maintained the lead.

But it wasn't to last very long. The Airdrie United defence were split wide open by a fine passing movement that left Mark McCulloch with nothing to do but slot the ball home. 1 - 1 and Airdrie United were on the back foot.

The game was to come to a dramatic ending as Ross County were on the attack once again Mark McGeown was forced to pull of a fantastic double save to keep the score level. Then Airdrie United went on the attack, a few minutes left on the clock and Alan Gow sent in a cross that was deflected out to the on rushing Alan McManus. Alan lifted the ball back in to the goal mouth and in a scuffle in side the box it was Owen Coyle who popped up to fire the ball in to the back of the net and give Airdrie United the three points.

The game finished Airdrie United (2) Vs. (1) Ross County.
