Two first half goals by Thistle's Paul Cairney were enough to secure the 3 points for the Glasgow side.  In a game that took some time to come to life it was Partick who were first to pose a threat when a dangerous delivery from the right had the Airdrie defence scrambling to clear.  Tom Parrat then went close but his effort was saved by Tuffey.

Then in 29 minutes Cairney reacted quickest when Liam Buchanan's shot was parried by Stephen Robertson and he bundled in to put Thislte in front.  5 minutes later Airdrie came closest to an equaliser when a Marc Smyth effort rebounded off the bar.  In 42minutes Thistle doubled their lead when Cairney turned sharpley in the box to fire home. 

Airdrie came out in the second period in determined fashion and inside 5 minutes had a good shout for a penalty turned down when Scott Gemmil was barged in the box.  Seconds later Alan Trouten fired wide from inside the box.   Thistle came close halfway through the second half when Lovells effort rebounded off the post.  With 15 minutes remaining Tuffey again denied Parrat.  In the closing stages of the game both sides were reduced to 10 men when Alan Trouten was sent off for a second bookable offence, to be closely followed by David Rowson.
