Airdrie United got the new year off to a great start with a 1-0 win away to league leaders Dundee.  A 1st half penalty was converted by Kevin MacDonald and this proved enough to ensure the Diamonds returned from Dundee with 3 points and their 1st away win of the season.

With the fixture switched last week to Dens Park a 10am pitch inspection was called as a precautionary measure but the pitch was in good condition.  Dundee started well and Pat Clarke crashed his effort off the bar inside the 1st 6 minutes.   Scott McLaughlin then went close but his effort rebounded off team-mate John Baird.  Two minutes later Ryan McCann forced a save from Rab Douglas when he flicked on a Ricky Waddell cross.  In the 23rd minute Hart was pulled down in the box and Dundee were awarded a penalty, Griffiths effort was saved by Stephen Robertson.  4 minutes later Airdrie were awarded a penalty when Lauchlan hauled down O'Carroll in the box.  Kevin MacDonald converted well to put the Diamonds in front.  On the stroke of half time Dundee were reduced to 10 men when MacKenzies 2 footed lunge on Stephen Robertson resulted in a straight red.

With the second half well underway Diarmuid O'Carroll was unlucky to see his effort fly over the bar after he'd caught Malone in possession.  Dundee then had Rab Douglas to thank when he saved well from O'Carroll then 60 seconds later saved to prevent Baird putting Airdrie 2 up.  With the game reaching its climax Bobby Donnelly picked up a 2nd yellow card and Airdrie were reduced to 10 men but hold out to record a morale boosting win.
