Airdrie United started the game in determined form and John Baird got the diamonds off to the best possible start when he fired home from 20 yards inside the first minute. Airdrie were unlucky not to double the advantage when a great run from Scott McLaughlin was ended when his effort rebounded off the post. With 26 minutes gone Partick Thistle levelled when Simon Donnelly converted a free kick at the edge of the box. On the stroke of half time Thistle took the lead when former diamond Stephen McKeown chipped in.
The 2nd half was barely underway when Steve Lovell extended Thistles lead. John Baird then got the diamonds back into the game with his 2nd goal but hopes were dashed minutes later when Lovell restored Particks 2 goal advantage. On 66 minutes Paul Cairney put the game beyond Airdrie when he made it 5-2.
