Airdrie United (2) Vs. (2) Falkirk
Bells Scottish 1st Division
12th March 2005
New Broomfield

Airdrie were determined to show champions-elect Falkirk what they were capable of in the last of our four meetings this season.
It took a while for Airdrie to find their rhythm. The game was barely two minutes old when a series of lost passes had resulted in Falkirk pressure down our inside left channel. Daniel McBreen crossed along the edge of the six yard box and Duffy tapped the ball home, to give Falkirk an early lead.
We were forced to make some drastic changes in defence, as first Alan McManus clipped his own ankle and needed removed from the game, then five minutes later Stephen Docherty also left the field of play with what looked like a thigh injury. Neil McGowan was brought on for Alan McManus and Martin Hardie was brought back from mid-field to fill in for the injured Docherty. Late in the first half after it looked like the game was settling down Alan Gow went on one of his mazy runs in to the Falkirk Penalty box and was promptly brought down for a definite penalty, only to see the ref waving play on.

As the second half began Airdrie were to receive their just reward for the missed penalty in the first half, with in five minutes of the restart Kevin James handled the ball just inside the box. Alan Gow stepped up and fired the Ball low passed Alan Ferguson. 1 - 1 and it was game on. Airdrie went on the attack from here holding the ball up well retaining possession and for the next 10 minutes we were well on top. Our second goal came from Stephen McKeown. Owen Coyle saw a gap in the Falkirk defence and his pass split them right down the middle, Stephen raced on to it and keeping his composure fired home to give Airdrie the lead.
Sinner earlier in the second half Kevin James was about to become saviour for the Falkirk side. A free kick just inside our half was lofted speculatively in to the box. The Airdrie defence failed to clear the ball properly and Kevin James stepped up to "float" yes Float the ball gently pass the out stretched hands of Mark McGeown.
The match ended 2-2.
