St. Mirren (1) Vs.
Airdrie United (1)
Bells Scottish 1st Division
25th September 2004
Love Street Stadium
The proverbial
game of two halves, where Airdrie United proved that they can equal
any team in this league having beaten and drawn with the two teams at
the top of the league, with Willie McLaren and Martin Hardie both made
there first team starts in the Bells 1st Division.
Airdrie United huffed and puffed in the first half and in only on a
few occasions managed to break through the St Mirren defence, but all
to no avail. The dead lock was broken by St Mirren. Sixteen minutes
gone and Airdrie United were 1-0 down and St Mirren started to take
a little bit more control of the game. Neither team managed to make
any further chances and the first half slowly came to an end.
The second half was turned on its head as Airdrie United came out fighting
and took control of the midfield with St Mirren just not getting through.
Changes late in the second half gave us more attacking chances, David
Dunn came on for Martin Hardie and his combinations with Willie McLaren
gave us some break away chances. But when Mark Roberts was brought on
for Owen Coyle it seemed the St Mirren defence just didn't know what
to do. In the last fifteen minutes we created more chances than we had
in the previous half. Mark Roberts shot was saved by the St Mirren keeper,
Stephen McKeown put the ball inches by the left hand post and finally
Kevin Barkey put in a pin point cross for Mark Roberts to score the
equalising goal.
Airdrie United deserved the equalising goal for our efforts during the
second half even if the first was a little bit of a let down.
