Airdrie United lost comprehensively to Falkirk with a brace from
Andy Thompson.
Falkirk opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Craig McPherson
found Davie Nicholls near the left touchline, and from the midfielder's
cut-back Thompson side-footed home. Airdrie United had a decent chance
when Mark Robert crossed in from the right hand side only to see Jerome
Varielle mss the ball by inches.
The second arrived with 24 minutes on the clock, keeper Mark McGeown
punched out a Russell Latapy corner but it fell to David Nicholls
who struck a wonderful left-foot shot high into the net from 20 yards.
Two-nil at half time but it didn't take Falkirk long to add to their
tally, nine minutes after the interval when Russell Latapy crossed
from the right, Campbell knocked down the ball for Andy Lawrie who
hooked home the third from close range.
Falkirk went four up eight minutes later with another great counter
attack. A long defence splitting cross from Nicholls found Latapy
unmarked he then went past Alan McManus before planting the ball into
the roof of the net.
On the 78th minute, Mark McGeown did well to parry another Thompson's
effort, but John O'Neil's return cross past the grounded keeper and
Thompson had it second.
The game finished Falkirk (5) Vs. Airdrie United (0)
