Airdrie United (3) Vs. (1) Clyde
A very one sided affair saw Airdrie United knock Clyde of the top of the league and again take full points from this fixture. There were a few changes to the team that were defeated by Queen of the South last week. In to the starting line up came Alan Gow, Mark Roberts and Paul Lovering. The game started off at a quick pace and Airdrie United were on the attack. The first real chance of the game fell to Martin Hardie whose volley was fired over the bar. It wasn't long until our attacking play paid dividends this week. Our first goal came from a combination of Mark Roberts and Owen Coyle. Mark fired a header back across the face of the goal when it seemed easier to score, but the ball fell perfectly for Owen Coyle who headed the ball under the out stretched arms of Clyde goal keeper Bryn Halliwell. Two minutes later the roles were reversed with Owen Coyle becoming the supplier. Mark Roberts had lost his marker at the near post once again and Coyle supplied the pin point cross for Roberts to header home the second. Billy Reid decided then that changes were needed and Gary Bollen was replaced. The player was not happy as he stormed of the park. A major difference in this game was our ability to hold up the ball and attack, giving our defence a break from the pressure they have been constantly under. So far the game was very one sided Clyde had there only real chance of the first half when Scott Wilson headed towards goal only for Mark Roberts to clear off the line. The second half continued in much the same as the first but with Clyde packing the mid-field it was becoming harder for our players to break them down. Roberts had to be substituted and Jerome Vareille came in to the play on 62 minutes. Airdrie United scored their next goal through a solo effort from Bartletts man of the match Alan Gow, a run from inside the Clyde half which he hammered low to the left hand side and put Airdrie in the comfort zone with 15 minutes to go. Clyde managed to get a consolation goal awarded to substitute Alex Walker, Lee Hollis had his shot covered but it deflected off an Airdrie player and ended in the back of the net. Airdrie were pushed back then but never really looked like the lead would be lost. A very comfortable win for the Diamonds, against the league leaders, Clyde.
