Airdrie (1) vs. Hearts (1) (Friendly)
24th July 2004
New Broomfield

In a pretty even match that saw Airdrie holding the lead for almost 30 minutes, it was only through substitutions that Hearts gained the equalising goal. The Airdrie United team gave a confident display in this our last friendly.

Airdrie started well and grew in confidence as the game went on, Owen Coyle started up front along side Stephen McKeown and the combination of Stephen holding up the ball and Owen's skill and experience led to our goal on the 25th minute - another goal to add to the Owen Coyle collection. The friendly was played as no more than that, but there was still one or two tackles going in that if it had been a competitive game, I'm sure referee Willie Young would have flashed a card at. The first half ended with neither team making any further direct chances at goal. Both defences and midfields had worked hard to snuff out the game and thus the half ended 1-0 to Airdrie.

The second half began as it ended, neither team making any substitutions until at least 20 minutes into the half and it was during the second round of substitutions that Airdrie were caught at the back as our defence were still trying to sort themselves out. The Hearts goal scorer was Graham Weir and until then it didn't look like Hearts would have scored. All in all it was a good positive game for Airdrie.
